First Post: January 4, 2009

Hi everyone -- we're establishing this blog so that everyone has access to the information we have, as soon as we're able to post it.  Mom and Dad have been getting lots of great phone calls but it's hard to properly keep up with all of the good will.  So we figured this is the next best thing!

The status as of today is that they have officially begun the evaluation process for getting her into the heart transplant program -- her diagnosis is cardiomyopathy.  The evaluation requires a series a tests and also some qualitative decision making by a board.  We're not sure how long the process is to be "accepted", but believe she will be.  After that, she has a wait of some period ahead of her, and this will be done at the Cleveland Clinic.  We're still learning the answers to the questions you may have -- how long it may take to get one, what priority status she has in the queue, etc.

Right now, her doctors hypothesize that some sort of viral infection attacked her heart over the last few years (she has a normal test dating to 2005).  There may also be hereditary effects.

Lots more news and information will be coming this week, and we'll put it here as soon as we have it.  Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.

  1. Dear Susan, Lori and Family,
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother/grandmother. She will be missed by everyone that she knew and loved. Susan, I pray for a doner and speedy recovery. You are a very strong woman. With the support of your wonderful family and friends, I have full confidence that you will get through this. Be sure to look for the good in everything, no matter what! The most important thing you can do is keep your spirits up! I will be keeping you in my prayers, Jennifer Lehto

  2. Dear Susan, Terry and girls,
I just can't believe the news. It was just a few months ago that Sue and I talked in Meijer's about Al's surgery on his mitro valve. Sue, you told me then that you were going to discuss yours more the next time you went to the doctor. And now all this! You are all in my prayers. thank you for the blog updates. We all care and wish we could do more. Be assured of our prayers. Julie Schexnaildre

  3. Sue,
The Cleveland Clinic is the place for you to be. When I had my surgery in 1995 they took excellent care of us. I believe the Dr. Delos Cosgrove is now the CEO. His passion for excellence is the HEART!!
Remember we still need to do Tuscany.

On the serious side you do know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Love you,
    Bob and Betty

  4. Sue,

This is Barbara, Richard and Michele Payne writing you from New Jersey! We are still here at Michele's place! We have a written communique on the way! Needless to say, we are "worrying the Lord" about you, an old saying used by my father and grandfather. You are definately in the right place (at the cleo clinic) and we know that you will receive excellent care! We have enjoyed talking to Carrie several times. She was impressed to learn that Barb and I successfully drove into the city without Michele! The blog is such a great idea and Carrie is a great writer! See you soon!
